about

Other People's Energy second album, Habitat.

Other People’s Energy is a duo avant-pop / electroacoustic outfit consisting of Skyler Hill (composition+electronics) and Christopher Walker (voice+electronics) that create music with “a reverence for musique concrète traditions and the ambient potential of jazz.” On their new recording Habitat, themes of personal exploration are lamented through affected strings and just-settled rhythms over the course of four unique sonic endeavors. Following their debut All Histories, this new work further explores their process of creating songs that are born of live improvisation and codified into songwriting, placing the sound palette somewhere in the realm of Age of Adz-era Sufjan Stevens.

“The free-jazz dabbling, minimalist sensibilities, and devotion to sensitive production for which Hill and Walker are known inform this record, essentially a step-out for two experimental composers into high-toned pop music. Somehow the results are both direct and mysterious — a feat often ventured and seldom achieved in post-fusion arenas and electroacoustic collage-making.” - Lyndsay Knecht
